Women 50+ struggling with stress

Today’s focus: Are you a mother whose children are grown up, have left home and you don’t feel needed anymore?

For many women this is the time of life when you may have planned to live dreams, go on new adventures, take up a hobby , change direction professionally.But the best laid plans can become lost or forgotten.

Stress triggers in women 50+ is a subject often discussed and can be fraught with anxiety for several reasons. Feelings of sadness and loss as children become more independent or leave home can be painfully real. The empty nest syndrome is potentially a major stress trigger for parents and arguably more women can struggle with this problem.

Our emotional health affects our physical health

Without question our emotional health affects our physical health. Stress will cause physical health to be compromised, challenged, weakened.

What happens to your body when a stressor is released or ended?

All things Divorce related are difficult to say the least. Please be aware that when the divorce stress is lessened, somehow it appears that your physical health is becoming challenging, then self-healing can be a major factor in recovery.

Do not doubt this; you can help yourself. I offer support with my Lifestyle Prescriptions® Health Coaching , EFT Tapping and my Healthy Lifestyles, Healthy Eating 4 week Programme.

My message

Whilst on holiday last year and after returning from a long walk across the sand dunes in Cornwall, I rested and caught up with my Lifestyle Prescriptions® Health Coaching class, which I missed ‘Live’. I love it. I have tools and techniques to move clients to a place of real emotional and physical healing.

Fears which dominate are in your 5% conscious brain

Self-healing empowers and offers a release from continual medication, but

  • perhaps you may be fearful because you need your required medication
  • you’re fearful because your medication is no longer so effective (chronic symptoms can reduce the power /effectiveness of medicines)
    But at a self-healing level you can work alongside, (or not) and can still gain from all the modern marvels.

Subconscious and Conscious Brain

At a conscious level we are only working with 5% of our brain so all our decisions and thinking are made using that 5% . And that 5% holds our beliefs and the information which jumps to the front when we try to make what we THINK are good decisions.

Key Point

Your physical health may deteriorate briefly or longterm and that will surprise you BECAUSE, you probaly THINK that the stress is over so why should you be feeling so physically ill, run down, low.

Your intelligent body goes into Regeneration when a stress is resolved, over, lessened and the body takes an opportunity to heal, to become strong. And that is when you have the unwanted and undesirable health symptoms, illness, major or minor. It is the body rebalancing and outwith your conscious control.

Has your sex life changed during Lockdown?

So, I was in the garden planting up this morning and thoughts popped into my head. One thought led to this Post and I have some questions.

I am posting to highlight a subject which I suspect is quietly questioned by women, and thought about more often by men: Sex.

The main question to ponder is: During Lockdown if you are living with a long term partner, or a relatively new partner, has your sex life changed for the better or for the worse?

I do not offer answers this Post offers is an opportunity for consideration. Has your sex life improved or is there room for discussion with your partner?

Points for consideration during this time of Lockdown

  1. Are you having more or less sex?
  2. Different sex or more meaningful sex?
  3. Do you talk about your sex life with each other?
  4. Has an increased sex life brought you closer to your partner?
  5. Because it’s been so long since the sex subject was discussed or initiated, does your lack of a sex life cause you stress?
  6. Do you dread the silent hints from your partner when there is pressure for more sex?
  7. Has sex been initiated by both of you or is it a one way initiation; one partner just complies?
  8. Has lack of sex been something that does not cause any concern?
  9.  Perhaps your sex life is just fine thank you!

For those working as normal during Lockdown maybe all is well. Nothing has changed, you’re not looking for change. Or perhaps this post may highlight where change could be made.

If you are

  • In a convenient relationship and sex plays no part
  • In the unfortunate situation where your relationship has ended and you are awaiting a solution and sex plays no part
  • Divorced, single and looking for a relationship.
    Then I address the sex topic within my Home Study Programme ‘It’s Time to Move On‘.

The points I have raised can offer thought, action or a just leave well alone response. The topic of sex is something we Brits are not known to discuss with ease.
No-one knows what goes on behind closed doors? But relationships are important.

Age is irrelevant and of course men and woman can have different biological needs and each will respond  to the questions accordingly. But both parties deserve to be heard. It’s a two way deal. There will however be difficulty if there are unwritten or unspoken rules within a relationship. 
In my opinion that can be unhealthy. 

Key Point

Never assume your partner knows or remotely understands your silence, whatever the subject. It may work in your benefit to talk more.

Lockdown can be a timely opportunity  to give this important part of your relationship some time, thought  and energy. Are you content about the intimate part of your relationship?  

Benefits

From a positive outlook sex in a relationship can be good for the soul. It can make you feel better, happier and more able to get through the day.
Have the conversation with your partner if you want change, whatever that is. Or, smile, enjoy the feeling of ease and added benefits you sense as a couple from Lockdown.

Relationships

Relationships need work, difficult topics can be addressed. Speak with your partner. Balance and equality are key.

Imbalance brings in the negative feelings of unfairness, “I can’t speak up, I’m frightened, I’ve waited too long to discuss it”.
It is never too long to initiate discussion if you place great value on your relationship and are aware that complacency is not useful long term.
Stress and anxiety can affect your sex life.

Chest Infections : Seasonal health symptoms

A Chest Infection might be thought of as a seasonal health symptom, understood by many at base level with a resignation of acceptance: Not this again! Why? It runs its unwanted course causing annoyance, pain and very unpleasant symptoms.

From a Lifestyle Prescriptions® Health Coach viewpoint, I am highlighting Chest infections, but the information within this Post works for many physical health symptoms or emotional health symptoms.

All you want is to feel better, healthier, rid of this ailment

And maybe you’d prefer to better manage these recurring symptoms without strong medication. Or maybe you are quietly worried because the medication just does not seem to be working so effectively.

How I help you reduce and/or clear your symptoms

You explore how small and sustainable change can become powerful and manageable new lifestyle habits. You learn how unresolved emotional hurts and trauma shape negative mind chatter and beliefs which seem dominant in your day to day life.

With a chest infection there are specific questioning routes a LPHC (Lifestyle Prescriptions® Health Coach) will take to uncover the underlying reasons WHY you may have this symptom. Specific questions relating to chest infections reveal feelings/a sense of/ an inner knowing of:

  • feelings of fear, feelings of suffocation, beliefs of suffocating for some reason
  • fearful situations going on around your territorial space (see explanation below)
  • feeling scared or frightened, death fright fears

And then very specific tools and techniques are shared to help you feel better and potentially reduce and clear the root cause of this health symptom.

Key Point: If chronic, a specific stress related trigger will start the same cycle of ill health, or anxiety based symptom, again and again.

What is Territorial space?

Territorial space triggers may relate to your place of work, your life with a partner, a family concern; something territorial to you. I work with the Organ, Mind, Brain connection. I facilitate your ability to implement change to your health problem.

There’s plenty you can do to start helping yourself. Keeping dates, seeing patterns to your illness are key to you and your coach or therapist.

Consider:

  • What might have been causing recent stress?
  • What life event happened recently which I know caused substantial stress?
  • Can you remember when a chest infection first showed up your life?
  • IMPORTANT. What major stressful life event may have happened way back that you can relate to, especially at the same time of year as your symptom drops in to visit again. That event may be the trigger to the pattern and timescale of your health symptom? (a bit like allergies that kick in seasonally ….which can be worked through the same way ) . In time it takes lesser related stress for same triggers to be set off. That’s because unresolved emotional hurt is so ingrained at cellular level.

Why you are feeling ill

When you are feeling ill there is a self-healing process going on, specific to your unwanted health symptom. I shall endeavour to make this explanation simple: Your chest infection ( or health symptom)…

  1. A Stress Trigger was activated.
  2. The body tissue became stressed. Stress Phase.
  3. The stress was over which activated the Regeneration Trigger.
  4. The Regeneration Phase kicked in.
  5. And that is when the body begins healing; you feel ill.

Key Information: This is the body’s super intelligence self-healing process at work. If you are interested I offer a free chat to help you understand what is going on. It’s going on regardless of you trying to fight it, question it.

At a conscious level we only work with 5% conscious brain. The information stored in the 95% unconscious/subconscious brain holds much of value when we try to improve our health. My other therapeutic tools and techniques eg EFT Tapping and much more, help you to access this information.

Question: Why would one fail to appreciate that the Organ, Mind, Brain connection is real, inter-related and therefore our emotional health impacts our physical health?

Why doesn’t everyone have this problem? (chest infection)

Unresolved emotional trauma is fairly key to why you ‘suffer’ from this ailment. Other areas of your life also have input, generally to a lesser degree. Your best friend, partner, work colleague have their own health stuff affecting them. Your body is a very intelligent organ. You are unique. Your body can self-heal. Medicines help to mask, alleviate and seem to clear the symptoms. But chronic conditions and pain e.g. Back Pain are a recurrence of a same ailment. The medicine does not address WHY you have this ailment. LPHC are trained to know how to help you find many answers so that you can have an active part in your healing journey.

Top Tips:

All manageable and required when working with a Lifestyle Prescriptions® Health Coach. or Emotional Healing Practitioner.

  • Keep a little diary and note down date and health symptom (illness, pain, disease).eg. chest problem 12th Nov. 2019. And briefest of details regarding severity.
  • What was (but not any more!) going on recently; last week, last month which was stressful?
  • I always suggest long and slow deep breathes if a bit of panic creeps in when super stressed: 5 seconds in, 6 or 7 seconds out. Difficult with a chest infection.But if panic creeps in, calming and strong focus is required.
  • Choose a little Mantra and breathe it in gently, night and morning. e.g. I can manage my anxiety, this too will pass.

Very important key point: Little 1% improvements make for big change in 90 days. Big sudden change is seldom successful.

It’s time to take action now if you are committed to:

  • feeling empowered to make certain that little sustainable changes count
  • appreciating which bigger changes then become possible
  • being held accountable for your actions in relation to set goals
  • facing fears and clearing negative self-talk
  • managing procrastination
  • optimizing physical and/or emotional health
